Chapter 0.7 July
28th July 2023
Make it stand out
As July passes by, I am reminded of all that is beautiful about creativity
Welcome July in swathes of white cotton and linen. Tennis. Badminton. Cricket on the green. The best of British sports are yet to be enjoyed, accompanied by the pop of corks, something fresh to sip, strawberries and cream. Another round of afternoon tea? Yes, please. Bikinis on, SPF painted. Ice cubes. Ice cream. Seaside trips are on the horizon. Listen for the chime of church bells through cobbled streets. Lazy sunny Sundays spent lounging on picnic blankets, a good book in hand, bees buzzing all around, the gentlest summer orchestra. Herbs to harvest. Sun-ripened berries and juicy tomatoes primed for picking. Summer sings freedom.
July 2023: A Month of Creativity and Adventures
Summer has always been a season of possibilities and growth, and July 2023 was no exception. This past month was filled with exciting experiences, artistic pursuits, and the joy of creating something new. Let me take you through the highlights of my July, from my thrilling trip to London for the Raindance HQ to the heartwarming collaboration with my sister on a children's illustrated book titled "Wandering Willa Wexby."
Raindance and "The Professor"
One of the most remarkable events of July was my trip to London, where I had the fantastic opportunity to take part in the renowned Raindance Film Directing Course. The course, led by the talented director Simon Hunter, was an enriching and enlightening experience. It provided me with valuable insights into the world of filmmaking and honed my skills as a director.
The culmination of the course was a challenging two-day film-making challenge. In those two days, I, along with a dedicated team of fellow aspiring filmmakers, worked tirelessly to create our short film titled "The Professor." This gripping thriller revolved around the intriguing story of a university professor entangled in a web of mysteries and suspense. The process was intense, but it was incredibly rewarding to see our vision come to life on the screen.
Starting "Wandering Willa Wexby" - A Children's Illustrated Book
After my exhilarating time at Raindance, I returned home with a newfound passion for storytelling. But this time, the focus shifted to a different medium: children's illustrated books. Collaborating with my talented sister, we embarked on an exciting journey to create "Wandering Willa Wexby."
Our book is a heartwarming tale of a young adventurous girl named Willa, who sets out on a journey to explore the magical wonders of a mystical forest. Through colorful illustrations and engaging storytelling, "Wandering Willa Wexby" aims to inspire children to embrace their curiosity and embrace the beauty of nature. As we bring this delightful book to life, we're eagerly looking forward to sharing it with young readers everywhere.
Conclusion: Embracing Creativity and Growth
July 2023 has been a month to remember—a time of learning, adventure, and artistic endeavors. My experience at the Raindance directing course challenged me to grow as a filmmaker and storyteller, while "The Professor" became a testament to the power of collaboration and dedication.
As I delved into the world of children's illustrated books, I discovered a whole new realm of creativity and expression. Working with my sister on "Wandering Willa Wexby" has been a joyous journey that reminded me of the beauty of shared imagination.
This month has taught me that creativity knows no bounds, and when we embrace our passions wholeheartedly, we can create something truly extraordinary. Whether it's through the lens of a camera or the pages of a book, storytelling has the power to connect us all.
As we bid farewell to July and step into the future, I carry the lessons and memories of this month with me. I am excited about the endless possibilities that lie ahead and the potential for even more beautiful creations. Here's to embracing creativity, seeking inspiration, and embracing the joys of life's creative journey.
Until next time!
